FAQ & Support

Everything you need to know about Syntax Styler.

How do I install Syntax Styler?

Visit the Google Workspace™ Marketplace and search for “Syntax Styler”, or click the install button on our homepage. Once installed, open any Google Docs™, Google Slides™, or Google Sheets™ document and look for Syntax Styler in the sidebar (Extensions → Syntax Styler).

Which programming languages are supported?

Syntax Styler supports 17+ languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, C#, PHP, Ruby, SQL, HTML, CSS, JSON, YAML, Bash/Shell, Go, Rust, and Swift. More languages may be added in future updates.

How do I use it?

Simply select the code in your document, choose a language and theme from the sidebar, and click “Apply Syntax Highlight”. You can also click “Auto-Indent Code” first to clean up messy formatting before highlighting.

Can I change the theme after highlighting?

Yes! Select the already-highlighted code, choose a new theme, and click “Apply Syntax Highlight” again. Syntax Styler will automatically replace the old formatting — including language labels and background colours — with the new theme.

Does it work with tables in Google Docs™?

Yes. When you apply a “Box” theme (dark background), the code is placed inside a table cell with the background colour applied. If you switch to an “Inline” theme like Arctic Frost, the cell background is automatically reset to white. Syntax Styler handles mixed selections (text + table cells) seamlessly.

Is my data safe?

Absolutely. Syntax Styler collects zero data. All processing happens locally within the Google Apps Script runtime. We use .currentonly scopes, meaning the add-on can only access the document you currently have open — nothing else. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Is Syntax Styler free?

Yes, Syntax Styler is completely free to use with all features included. There are no paid tiers, subscriptions, or hidden costs.

I found a bug or have a feature request. How do I report it?
