Privacy Policy

At Syntax Styler, your privacy is our highest priority. Our add-on is architected with a “Zero Collection” model — we do not collect, store, transmit, or process any user data on external servers.

1. Zero Data Collection Architecture

Syntax Styler operates entirely within the Google Apps Script runtime environment. All code formatting, syntax tokenization, and style application happens locally within your Google Workspace™ session.

  • No External Servers: We do not operate any backend servers, databases, or APIs. There is no infrastructure to collect data on.
  • No Analytics: We do not use Google Analytics, tracking pixels, cookies, or any form of telemetry.
  • No File Storage: Your document content is never copied, cached, or transmitted outside of your Google Workspace™ environment.

2. Scopes & Permissions

Syntax Styler requests the minimum required permissions to function:

  • documents.currentonly: Read and modify only the currently active Google Docs™ document.
  • presentations.currentonly: Read and modify only the currently active Google Slides™ presentation.
  • spreadsheets.currentonly: Read and modify only the currently active Google Sheets™ spreadsheet.
  • script.container.ui: Display the sidebar interface within your document.

We use .currentonly scopes exclusively. This means Syntax Styler cannot access any other documents, files, or data in your Google Drive™ or Google Account.

3. How We Use Your Information

The only data Syntax Styler interacts with is the text you select within your current document. This text is:

  • Read from your selection
  • Tokenized locally using the Highlight.js library (bundled within the add-on)
  • Written back to the same document with formatting applied

At no point does this data leave the Google Apps Script sandbox.

4. Data Sharing, Disclosure, and Transfer

We do not share, sell, trade, or transfer any user data to third parties. Specifically:

  • We do NOT share data with third-party AI models.
  • We do NOT share data with advertising networks or data brokers.
  • We do NOT transfer data to any external service, API, or server.

Since we collect zero data, there is nothing to share.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Syntax Styler does not retain any data. Each formatting session is stateless — once the formatting is applied to your document, the add-on retains no memory of the operation.

  • No Logs: We do not log your code, selections, or formatting choices.
  • No Persistent State: User preferences (selected language, theme) are stored only in the active card session and are discarded when the sidebar is closed.

Data Erasure Requests:Because Syntax Styler does not collect, store, or transmit any user data, we do not maintain any records to delete. If you wish to “remove” the add-on's access to your document, you can simply close the sidebar or uninstall the add-on via the Google Workspace™ Marketplace. Any formatting applied to your document is yours to keep or delete as you see fit.

6. Google API Services User Data Policy

Syntax Styler's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

7. Children's Privacy

Syntax Styler is designed for use by educators, developers, and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The add-on processes document content only and does not collect any personal identifiers.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
